The original building was designed in 1960 as a landscape architects office. A new addition was added in 2008. The goals included creating distinct and functional office spaces, while also adding necessary storage, a modern kitchen, and new bathrooms. New finishes, lighting, mechanical systems and computer connectivity were upgraded in the existing building. Great care was taken to seamlessly match the addition to the understated style of the existing building so that the new structure would continue to nestle into the woodsy site rather than dominate it. On the exterior this included the use of clear cedar siding and the continuation of intricate and fun detailing of the eave woodwork. On the interior it involved matching tongue and groove cedar siding and smooth concrete flooring.

The new facility incorporates several "green" features and technologies. The natural tree cover from old maple, butternut and oak trees (all deciduous) provides significant shade to the building in the summer, but allows for full sunlight in the winter when the trees lose their leaves. The new design strategically placed the addition so that large existing trees would remain undisturbed. The new addition includes an "eco-stone" paver parking lot which stores and treats storm water before releasing it back to its natural drainage into the soil. The building is designed with an underground rain water collection system which will store rainwater from the roof for later use as irrigation.

Lee Medical Building
This 13,000 square foot facility of medical office space is distributed over 3 stories. The exterior is a combination of split face CMU and stucco. The site has several challenges: it is accessed by an easement, set back 225’ from the street, and neighbors a land locked residence to the east which must be provided access. The building’s atrium was placed for maximum exposure to the street and driveway. Each floor has recesses or decks that add interest to the building’s appearance and reduces the square footage to meet the parking requirements.

Lakeview Light and Power
This project encompassed an extensive remodel of approximately 4,000 square feet plus an addition of 2,500 square feet. The owner wanted to keep the exterior walls of the existing building intact even though it had been added to two previous times. This posed considerable challenges structurally, mechanically, and aesthetically in order to tie the new and old together. The final design completely transformed this structure into an attractive and functional building. By designing one high roof form we successfully created an unobtrusive space for a mechanical catwalk area to house the new HVAC system. The new vaulted office plan is open, light and pleasant.

A new entry, service counter, and meeting space provide customers with a bright welcoming place to conduct business. All new restroom and shower facilities were designed. The original basement was maintained and upgraded for records storage. The vehicle storage area received all new lighting, new supervisor offices and a mechanical mezzanine.

The utility company has a specialized operations center that required very specific HVAC and electrical functions. We worked extensively with the controls company and the owner to ensure that their needs were fully met.
