Angler’s Haven Passive House

This compact, 1,450 sf two-bedroom 1-1/2 bath house provides lovely views of the adjacent old growth forest to the north in Deception Pass State Park and Skagit Bay to the east. Nestled beside the Heritage forest, on the heavily treed site the house was designed to only remove one significant tree. With a deep overhang, the flat roof covering most of the house will be planted with native woodland vegetation to softly integrate the house into the forest setting. A gabled roof over the living room provides a vaulted ceiling and the sloped roof at the appropriate angle for solar panels on the south plane.

The foundation is partially constructed from Faswall block, which is primarily composed of recycled wood pallets. Exterior walls and roof are built using Structurally Insulated Panels (SIP’s) for high insulation values with minimal thermal gaps while providing a very air-tight structure. Triple paned windows, advanced air-tight building shell detailing, a high efficiency heat pump, high temperature thermal battery, ERV fresh air system and solar photovoltaic array all support the passive house energy modeling for the house.
